Nursing Leadership of New Graduate Nurses : Focusing on the Experience of Nurse Administrators

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify the nursing leadership of new graduate nurses.

Methods : Data were collected using focus group interviews. Two focus group interviews were held with a total of 24 nurse administrators. All interviews were recorded and written verbatim. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.

Results : Three dimensions and six subcategories were identified by analyzing contents. Subcategories of ¡®active initiative¡¯ and ¡®self-awareness and self-management¡¯ were identified in the intrapersonal dimension. ¡®Communication¡¯ and ¡®consideration and cooperation¡¯ were identified as subcategories in the interpersonal relationship dimension. Job-related dimension consisted of two subcategories : ¡®responsibility¡¯ and ¡®work sensitivity¡¯.

Conclusion : This study suggests that universities must develop nursing education programs to promote the perception and development of nursing leadership for new graduate nurses.
